It’s Her Turn…

I’m going to keep this short and sweet.  My daughter is awesome.  She’s my idol, but I’ll get into that in more depth at another time.

Yesterday was the last game of Lily’s first season of basketball– a season of learning for sure. She absorbed the rules of the game, she grew more confident, she contributed to a team. And as hard as she worked, she hadn’t yet made a basket.

“Mom, I’m going to get a basket today.  I’ve got to.”

“Lily, pull hair if you have to.” (kidding, not kidding)

With less than a minute left in the game, something shifted in Lily. She was an animal. Suddenly she was everywhere.  I started getting warm and nervous.  As a parent who doesn’t typically record the game, I grabbed my camera as we all smelled what she was cooking.  The time had come; it was her turn.

After the game Lily told me that her coach had rallied the girls together during a timeout and encouraged the team to assist Lily in her goal– basket, you know what I mean!

That’s leadership if I’ve ever seen it.

Do you have a coach who inspired you? A pivotal moment in sports?  I’d love to hear about it!

Congratulations! I love that strength and grit! GO GET IT!
I had a track coach named Mrs. Pine- she was fantastic. My event was the high jump. She taught me to visualize myself going over, every step in the approach, and landing successfully. I thought it was silly, but did it- and it helped! I later saw her techniques in “Creative Visualization” by Shakti Gawain. THAT is a coach!

Way to go Lily! That is team work and girl power at it’s best! I love that the team kept supporting her and I hope they all celebrated like crazy once that ball went through the hoop!

Our J.V. softball team at Division had a great leader in Mr. J! He inspired us, respected us and made it fun. That’s why we went undefeated 😉. (And we were damn good, too haha).

My favorite coach ever was Chris Nash. He was my first baseball and basketball coach and every time there is a big moment during a game that I am in, I say “what would coach Nash” tell me to do
